A twist in the tale for golfers

'An individual Stableford and after every six holes a new partner' had the golfers scratching their heads to play with the best of partners

It’s not a golf season without an assortment of rules controversies that only succeed in making the rules unnecessarily complicated. Well, the game played on Saturday was a real “head-scratcher”.

‘An individual Stableford and after every six holes a new partner’ had the golfers scratching their heads to play with the best of partners.

Carlo Piagesti takes on the challenging Individual Stableford.

The sponsor’s high school golfers put out quite a challenge with a twist at the end, being a mystery jackpot number that saw drastic changes to the scorecards. The challenge was met with much enthusiasm and saw a field of 32 golfers take to the course after a shotgun start at 11.30am.

It was a game of watching and waiting in anticipation to see who would be the winner.

And it was a close call, with Henry Honiball winning on 51 points. In second was Deejay Ramdhav on a count-out on 50 points.

Third went to golf captain Arnold Boettiger and fourth to Monthly Mug winner Gail Boettiger, both on a count-out for 50 points. She has shown that she’s ready to take on any challenge! Closest for two on number 18 went to Tuppy Schiever.

At the end of the day and challenge, every golfer was a winner.

One of Saturday’s sponsors, Lionel Laatz.

A very big thank you to the sponsors – Owen Mcluckie from Bergville Spar, Carlo Piagesti, Lionel Laatz and Gordon Smith.

The club thanks its members and visitors for making it a successful day, and Bruce Titlestad for all the catering. Hope to have many more great golfing days like this one.

This week Saturday is the Mortimer Monthly Mug.
