A night to honour the music legends of Ladysmith

The Prakash Orchestra celebrated being in music and entertainment for 70 years on Saturday night at the Young Hindu Cultural Service Society (YHCSS) hall in Kandahar Avenue.
The ‘Tribute to the Legends – Blast from the Past’ show certainly lived up to its name and rocked Ladymith.
The orchestra, since its beginnings in the early 1940s, has achieved icon status in Northern KwaZulu-Natal and other parts of South Africa.
The YHCSS hall was packed to capacity on the night, with young and old turning up in their numbers to listen to the world-class music played by the Prakash Orchestra’s dynamic group of musicians.
The proceedings started off with the members of the orchestra being introduced one by one, and making the long walk down the red carpet and onto the stage as the audience clapped and cheered wildly.

Then it was time to crank up the amazing melodies they are known for.
Dharam Maharaj, Noor Asmal, Hussein Vally and many more guests had the crowd tapping their feet, clapping their hands and singing along.
Zakia Ahmed Siddiqi spoke about the history of the Prakash Orchestra and how they have made a name for themselves throughout SA and beyond.
The celebrations continued late into the night, with song and dance thoroughly captivating the crowd. Congratulations, Prakash Orchestra, on 70 years of playing the best music around!
