FS Department of Health commends rapid road maintenance efforts on N1

Government urged motorists to remain vigilant while driving on the N1, especially during night time hours.

The Free State Department of Health acknowledges the ongoing efforts by contractors working under the Routine Road Maintenance (RRM) program for SANRAL to address the hazardous potholes along the N1 route about 6 km after passing Koppies Off Ramp (R82).
The Department said it is pleased to report that significant progress has been made, with the contractors successfully repairing all major and problematic potholes today. However, the Department reminded the public that due to ongoing rainy conditions, there is uncertainty regarding the durability of these repairs, as the potholes had insufficient time to dry properly.
Government urged motorists to remain vigilant while driving on the N1, especially during night time hours. Should any potholes reopen or new issues arise, motorists are encourages to report them immediately, so that appropriate action can be taken. ‘It is important to note that a comprehensive repair job will be possible only after the rains have subsided,” Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson  of the Free State Department of Health, and Ms. Hilary Mophethe, spokesperson: of the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, said in a joint statement
The Free State MEC for Health, Monyatso Mahlatsi and that of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Mr. Jabu Mbalula  extended their heartfelt gratitude to the road maintenance contractors for their dedication and commitment to ensuring road safety, particularly during adverse weather conditions. “Their efforts not only contribute to the preservation of road infrastructure but also play a vital role in preventing accidents and potential loss of life,” they said.
“Road safety is a critical determinant of health, affecting the well-being of all road users. Government continues to advocate for safe road conditions and encourage all stakeholders to prioritize the safety of communities,” they concluded.
* Contractors will be back on site tommorrow, and route patrol and highway patrol will monitor the situation on the road tonight.
