On My Playlist: Top 5 Tremonti songs

Tremonti is one of the world’s best guitarists and this solo project shows this off perfectly.

Tremonti is an American heavy metal band founded and fronted by the lead vocalist and guitarist, Mark Tremonti. He is best known as the lead guitarist of the American rock bands, Creed and Alter Bridge.
The other members are the rhythm guitarist, Eric Friedman, and drummer, Garrett Whitlock. The bassist, Wolfgang Van Halen, was part of the band between 2012 and 2017.
The group has released four albums to date, each with its own signature heavy metal sound. Tremonti is one of the world’s best guitarists and this solo project shows this off perfectly.
Here are my top 5 Tremonti tracks:
5. Take You With Me
This fun riff from Tremonti is something different from his usual metal repertoire. “Take You With Me” is a love song that focuses on how love wins and can stay strong through anything. This track was the first single release from Tremonti’s fourth album, A Dying Machine.
The chorus is one of the best parts of the track:
“Never mistake what we are. We stand up high with our battle scars never regret or fight alone.”
“We’ll stand apart on our fight song now take your hand in mine and never let go.”

4. You Waste Your Time
“Waste Your Time” is one of my favourite tracks from Tremonti with thoughtful lyrics, a kick-ass riff and some fantastic vocals that encapsulate what a hard rock/metal song should sound like. The chorus is superb and shows off Tremonti’s grunge-like vocals. The song is well produced and you can hear each musical element clearly, adding to the overall enjoyment of the song.
The track has an amazing solo to top off the instrumental bliss of this number.
“You should have seen both faces from the start
Beholden to the hate within your heart
You cast the world aside
In hiding from your burden one more time.”

3. Radical Change
You can easily recognise Tremonti’s speed metal influence from the first face-melting riff on this blistering number about changing your ways and habits. The palm-muted chugging is frenetic, with several memorable riffs and licks setting the pace.
“It’s a radical change. Standing alone. Feeling the weight of the whole world. Defenceless again, standing alone. Turning my back on the whole world.”
The softer bridge that builds up to the wah-wah-influenced solo is another Tremonti trademark that he executes perfectly on this track.

2. Trust
The melodic clean guitar intro, with an accompanying drum pattern, is one of the first things to get your attention. This is a slower track from Tremonti and, therefore, his vocals really shine. The heartfelt, positive lyrics are the perfect accompaniment to the stellar music in this number. The song is all about leaving your past behind so better things can happen:
“So, put your trust in me. So I can show you how To leave you past behind so I can make you mine.”
The overarching theme seems to be that one needs to have that trust to live a better life. Tremonti is at his best in the bridge with some beautiful guitar work showing off his ability. This is an example that a song does not have to be full steam ahead, all the time, to be good.

1.Wish You Well
Tremonti is at his finest on this track from their debut album, All I Was, and his vocals and guitar playing are, once again, top-notch. The song has a frenetic pace and the double bass drumming from Whitlock adds to this.
The riff after the second chorus is like honey to any metal head’s ears with some great riffs and chord progressions before a massive solo puts the cherry on the cake.
“Your vanity it proved such a waste. You sank so low, now you know, you can’t forget your place. Can’t you see it slipping away? It’s your upper hand for the last day. I wish you well,” sings Tremonti in this track.
The breakdown at the end of the track adds that final punch.
