Tecno Spark 7 Pro Review: Plenty phone for price

South Africans are always on the lookout for a bargain, a deal that saves us money but also offers value for money.

South Africans are always on the lookout for a bargain, a deal that saves us money but also offers value for money.

The Tecno Spark 7 Pro which was launched in South Africa in September is one such a bargain. Retailing at R3999 for 128GB storage version and R2999 for 64GB. You get plenty of phone for the price.

As someone who is not an expert in smartphones, I found the Tecno Spark 7 Pro more than adequate for my needs. It has all the bells and whistles one would expect from a modern smartphone. For me trying to compare  the Spark Pro with other smartphone models are difficult as I don’t always understand the technical jargon.

The Spark Pro is equipped with a Helio G80 chipset with an Octa-core processor,  a 48 MP triple camera in the back that has an Artificial Intelligence (AI) lens. The front camera is 8 MP and comes with a front flash It has a fingerprint scanner, face unlock feature, cinematic display and 5000mAh.

The battery is by far my favourite part of the phone. The battery is long lasting and I found myself only charging it every two days with moderate use. The various camera features are great for content creating for social media specifically the front camera with its flash. No need for ring lights when creating videos with this device.

The operating system is the same as most new smartphones (Android 11) which along with the hardware specs makes it a steady companion in use. I never had the feeling that the phone was slowing down even after installing multiple apps including large mobile games. The user interface was something to get used to but, this is probably just a preference thing.

I was impressed by the Spark 7 Pro. It didn’t feel like I was using a cheaper smartphone. I could create slick content, play mobile games, use various apps without a problem. If you are in the market for a cheaper alternative that still provides value, you can’t go wrong with the Spark 7 Pro.
