Watch: SAPS, SPCA search Edenvale properties in search of tiger

A warrant has been issued to search approximately five properties in the area as there is no confirmation about the animal's whereabouts.

It is orange with black stripes – but yet no confirmation has been received that the tiger spotted in Edenvale, Johannesburg, has been safely captured as claimed.

The tiger that was captured on surveillance video on Monday morning sent residents into overdrive as they fear for their and their children’s safety. This fear remains as the local SPCA is yet to confirm that the tiger does not pose a danger anymore and that it is captured.

SOS Security informed the public that the tiger, reportedly spotted in the Eastleigh area, had been sedated and moved to a sanctuary. However, Edenvale SPCA later stated that SOS Security failed to provide any evidence that the animal had been captured and sedated.

As a result of being left in the dark, Edenvale SPCA and Edenvale SAPS members today searched several properties in the Illiondale suburb in search of the tiger.

Members of the NSPCA and Sandton SPCA also assisted in executing today’s searches at about five properties in the Illiondale suburb.

“We have received a lot of conflicting information and the security company involved has not been forthcoming. We are just trying to determine the facts. We have received a lot of information and these searches are just to confirm that the tiger is not at any of the properties mentioned to us,” says Edenvale SPCA secretary Jade Nel.;

“We have no further information on the tiger’s whereabouts.”

A search warrant executed at the first property on Lols Road yielded no results.

“We were met with a bit of resistance at the first property as the attorney was present when we arrived but eventually we were allowed in,” Nel said at the scene of the second property.

The search continues.
