A dominating first-half display set the tone for Potchefstroom Boys High’s 38-22 victory in the FNB Classic Clash against HTS Klerksdorp this afternoon (Saturday, May 30) on home turf.
College were up 26-0 at half-time and never looked back as they gained the upper hand with physicality at the ruck as well as thrilling backline play.
One of the highlights of the match was when outside centre and vice-captain of Boys High, Kgopolo Motsosi, scored a brilliant individual try from his own 22. Motsosi had much to do after beating a couple of defenders with his pace. When he entered the opposition’s 22, he shrugged off three more defenders before diving over. Motsosi was in tears after scoring, which showed how much it meant to him.

His centre partner, Obakeng Metoa, scored a hat-trick of tries. He opened the scoring in the first half and then scored his team’s second try after 20 minutes of play. He scored his third try with a swan dive under the poles at the beginning of the second half.
Tighthead prop Remoneilwe Mmope and right wing Thato Mokoena also scored tries for Boys High.

College flyhalf Bryton Meyer slotted four conversions from the kicking tee.
HTS Klerksdorp showed fight in the second half with four tries of their own, but it came a little too late. Their left winger, Onnalena Gejae, scored a brace, while Boipelo Moreme and vice-captain Mohau Sebuhuli also dotted down.
In the end, it was Boys High who celebrated victory in this first-ever Classic Clash between the schools. Letlotlo Lechesa and his teammates will savour this victory until the sun goes down.
When the sun rises, they will know that they can call themselves champions.
