Suspect arrested for murder after body of missing woman found

A Mozambican man has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Nomsa Jas (26) who has been missing since 25 August.

The partially decomposed body of a missing Potchefstroom woman was found near Carletonville yesterday.

A Mozambican man has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of Nomsa Jas (26) who has been missing since 25 August. According to Lt. Col. Amanda Funani, police spokesperson, a joint operation between the North West and Gauteng police lead to the 29 year old man’s arrest.

Jas’ body was found in the bushes along the R501 road near Carletonville. The suspect is expected to appear before the Oberlhozer Magistrates’ Court in Carletonville on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.

Shortly after Jas was reported missing, police found her abandoned vehicle at a mall in Daveyton.

The Provincial Police Commissioners of North West and Gauteng, Lt. Gen. Sello Kwena and Lt. Gen. Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and indicated that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that justice is served. The two Provincial Commissioners applauded the team members for their tireless efforts that led to the breakthrough
