North West SAPS Excellence Awards recognize outstanding service

The North West SAPS held its 12th Annual Excellence Awards on October 18, celebrating outstanding service among officers.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West celebrated its 12th Annual Excellence Awards on 18 October at the Elgro Hotel, honouring members for their exceptional dedication in the fight against crime.

Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Wessels Morweng, delivered a powerful address, stating, “Today we honour all of you whose contributions are often overlooked, yet they silently and astutely put the people of the Republic first.” He encouraged the police to remain steadfast in their duties, emphasizing the importance of professionalism in their work.

The event recognized about 40 award recipients across various categories, reinforcing a culture of excellence within the SAPS. Key winners included:

Brigadier Anre Wagner: Senior Administration Manager of the Year. He is recognized for his legal support to operational functions and is also a world-class archer.

Brigadier Ntoagae: Senior Operational Manager for Policing. She received the award for her effective crime management, leading to a decrease in reported cases in her district.

Boitekong Station: Station of the Year, praised for its teamwork in tackling property-related crimes, achieving the highest performance rating of 5.

Sergeant EM Morakabi: Woman of the Year, recognized for initiating 33 social crime prevention activities in Jouberton.

Captain Sam Tselanyane: Man of the Year, awarded for his exemplary communication efforts, including 75 media statements and 48 radio interviews during the review period.

Reservist Constable SR Makabe: Reservist of the Year for his outstanding volunteer work, arresting 41 suspects and recovering stolen property.

Sgt KG Mosiatlhaga: Sport Man of the Year for his remarkable performances in multiple marathons, including receiving silver medals in the Comrades Marathon.

Sgt Mammie Tselanyane: Person with Disability of the Year, recognized for her professional contributions despite her health challenges.

Sgt Setlolamathe: Community Police Forum (CPF) of the Year for organizing events and ensuring the active engagement of community policing structures.

Special awards were presented by Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena to:

Captain MN Bodiba at Mothotlung Station for leadership and excellence.

Colonel MF Mfuloane at Boitekong Station for operational excellence.

Colonel PC van Loggenberg for leadership in legal support.

Messenger AI Assegaai for dedication in service rendering.

Cleaner BE Monamodi for commitment to cleaning excellence.

Lieutenant General Kwena emphasized the importance of recognizing these efforts, stating, “Your tireless efforts cannot go unnoticed.”

The ceremony also celebrated 20 retirees, including Brigadier Steven Moodley and Colonel Hennie Kriel, who both received accolades for their 41 years of loyal service.

The event highlighted the SAPS’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and community trust within the North West Province.

Col PP Van Der Westhuizen: PC SCM won Administration Employee of the year level 8 – 12 award.
Brig MA Masenya: Prof Head SVCI won Senior Operational Manager: Crime of the year level 13-15 award.
Serf EM Morakabi at Jouberton Crime Prevention won the Woman of the year award.
