Special Investigation Unit show up at municipal buildings
JB Marks municipality is currently being investigated by the Specialised Investigation Unit.
Wolmarans Street is currently being blocked off for traffic due to the Specialised Investigation Unit that is currently running an investigation at the municipality.
The municipality will be investigated on allegations of serious maladministration in connection with the affairs of the Municipality, improper or unlawful conduct by employees of the Municipality, unlawful appropriation or expenditure of public money or property, unlawful, irregular or unapproved acquisitive act, transaction, measure or practice having a bearing upon State property, intentional or negligent loss of public money or damage to public property, offence referred to in Parts 1 to 4, or section 17, 20 or 21 (in so far as it relates to the aforementioned offences) of Chapter 2 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004 (Act No. 12 of 2004), and which offences were committed in connection with the affairs of the Municipality; or unlawful or improper conduct by any person, which has caused or may cause serious harm to the interests of the public or any category thereof which took place between January 1st 2015 up until October 4th 2024.
Hans-Jurie Moolman, DA councillor commented that this investigation will place responsibility back on the municipality.
Jeanette Tshite, acting manager of Communication at the JB Marks Local Municipality, said the municipal manager Kgomotso Kumbe will send out a media statement regarding the situation soon.
