The country celebrated Child Protection Week as South Africa celebrates Youth Month and also raises awareness on men’s Mental Health. Our community, especially our poor and vulnerable, are suffering because of a lack of opportunities and employment in or country.

“The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members,” M Gandi.
‘We owe our children – the most vulnerable citizens in any society – a life free from violence and fear,’ Nelson Mandela.

The mandate to protect children in South Africa is enshrined in Article 28 of the Constitution. Additionally, the Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005) gives effect to a child’s constitutional rights and protections. It enforces international child protection rules and standards within the country. While also outlining the duties and powers of those in authority.

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them.
3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-4. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:14 KJV.

For each of us needs to become like children who don’t see differences, race, war colour or religion, if we can become like children, how wonderful, joyful, peaceful life can be.

Young people face a myriad of challenges across the African landscape. From high unemployment to various forms of poverty, education inequality, lack of access to mentorship programmes, and many others hinder the youth from bettering their lives.

South African youth face numerous challenges, including unemployment, poverty, and unequal access to education and opportunities, which can lead to crime and social issues. These issues are exacerbated by the legacy of apartheid and the challenges of a struggling economy

While youth employment has dominated national and international development agendas, there hasn’t been any significant progress. The gap between the number of youths seeking employment and the employment opportunities available to them continues to grow wider. In addition, there is a discrepancy between employers’ needs and the skills of the youth entering the labour force.

Young people also easily drift into drugs, alcohol, and gang life, especially those living in low-income areas where unemployment and crime are also high. Unemployment: High unemployment rates make it difficult for young people to find work and support themselves. Political and social issues: Navigating the complexities of social and political issues can be challenging for young people. Drug dependence as some teens who misuse drugs are at increased risk of substance use disorder. Poor judgment, Sexual activity, Mental health disorders, peer pressure, Impaired driving, and Changes in school performance can affect youth negatively

Both government and church leaders, public and private sector leaders need to robustly approach these challenges of unemployment, drugs, crime and youth development in our country.

We need to protect all children and youth, whether they are yours or not.
