New Year’s appeal from Potchefstroom First Responders

Let’s welcome 2026 with care, respect, and responsibility.

As we welcome 2026, Potchefstroom First Responders would like to wish all residents a safe and peaceful New Year.

The festive season is a time for celebration, but it is also a period when preventable incidents increase—often linked to alcohol abuse, reckless behaviour, fireworks, and a lack of supervision. I urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and to think about the consequences of their actions.

Parents are especially encouraged to keep a close eye on their children, particularly during gatherings, street celebrations, and late-night activities. Many serious incidents involving minors happen simply because no responsible adult was watching.

Please plan ahead, do not drink and drive, avoid unnecessary conflict, and look out for one another. A single poor decision can turn a moment of celebration into a lifetime of regret.

Let’s welcome 2026 with care, respect, and responsibility.
