Two toddlers from Kanana, aged three and four respectively, were playing happily in the street. Their fun was short-lived, however, when a 28-year-old man took them to his house and raped them both.
The mother of the 3-year-old girl says she went to the usual place to look for the two children at around 16:00. That was where they were last seen playing, but she could not find them.
According to Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, the mother was surprised when the suspect brought the children home later in the afternoon and claimed to have found them playing in the rain.
The unsuspecting mother took them to the room to remove their wet clothing. She was suspicious when her neighbour’s 4-year-old grandchild covered her private parts after being undressed. When she enquired what was wrong, she noticed blood stains on the child’s underwear. When she checked her daughter, she found that she also had a discharge on her underwear. The little girl was quiet when she asked her what had happened.
The mother immediately alerted the grandmother of the 4-year-old. Upon her arrival at the neighbour’s house, the grandmother says she was told that the children had been raped.
According to Trom, the grandmother managed to find out from the little girl that she had been at some man’s house and that he had raped her on his bed.
The suspect appeared in the Ikageng Magistrates Court on Monday and will appear again next Monday.
