The North-West University’s Potchefstroom campus is a hive of activity ahead of the annual open day this Saturday (7 May 2016).
Thousands of prospective students and parents are expected on the 7th of May. But, being a PUK is not just about studying. So make sure you don’t miss all the exciting and fun stuff.
- Be on the lookout for the Faculty of Natural Science’s mad scientists running around in what can only be described as attempts to “kidnap” potential students.
- If law is your thing, be sure to visit the main building to witness a court hearing in the NWU-PUK’s moot court.
- The main attraction of the day is certainly the Faculty of Engineering’s award-winning solar-powered car. If you are biologically programmed to develop, operate or build machines and see yourself as the future of engineering, this is the place for you.
By now you are probably breaking out in a cold sweat, thinking, “I have no idea what any of the courses entail.” Not to worry. In every school faculty members and students are ready to tell you everything you would want to know. Talking to representatives can help you understand your options and boost your confidence.
But remember: studying at the NWU-PUK does not mean all work and no play. All registered students enjoy the freedom to participate in extracurricular activities through the different hostels for on- and off-campus students. You can also become involved in formal structures such as PUKfm (the student radio station), Wapad (the student newspaper) and the Student Representative Council or its substructures. And then there is sports …
For those who are more creatively motivated, the Creativity Centre offers short courses after hours, including drawing, painting, fashion design, photography, graphic design, web page design and so much more.
After the fun-(aca)demic activities, be sure to take a deep breath, relax and grab a cup of coffee at the Klipoog Cafeteria to taste what the next best four years of your life will be like.
