“Love is patient, love is kind. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.” After 65 years of marriage, one can truly say that these are the words Vivian (90) and Thelma (86) Petersen have been living by.
The Petersens are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary today (2 June).
“Men and women are so different, I believe we made it this far because we kept on keeping on,” says Thelma. And, in agreement with her, Viv says “Ja, jy moet uithou”.
They met on the dance floor in 1949 and one can clearly see that love still lives here.

According to Viv, they were dating for three years before they got married and every day since then has been a blessing to him.
“Over the years, there have been ups and downs, I’m not going to lie and say it has been perfect but we love each other and that’s why we held onto what we have,” says Vivi.
Out of the marriage, they have two children, four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. They currently live in Huis Eikelaan in their lovely simplex where they occasionally entertain guests. “It is only by Grace,” Thelma concluded.
