SANDF MP arrests three suspects on fraud and corruption allegations

The Military Police division of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) arrested three suspects in Potchefstroom on Monday on charges of fraud and corruption amounting to about R4 million.

The Military Police division of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) arrested three suspects in Potchefstroom last Monday on charges of fraud and corruption amounting to about R4 million.

Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga, the SANDF spokesperson, says the three suspects were arrested following lengthy investigations by the MP that were conducted after suspicions and scrutiny of the three.
“The alleged crimes occurred at the Potchefstroom Army Support Base (ASB) in 2008 when a company was awarded a tender to erect a security fence around the base,” said Mbanga.
According to him, two of the three suspects are employees of the company that rendered the service to the unit at the time. The third is a senior officer in the SANDF who works at the same base.
“The suspects appeared in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday, 2 August and were granted bail,” he said.
