The chief executive officer of Witrand Psychiatric Hospital was awarded the Public Service Lifetime Achievers Award at the National Batho Pele Excellence Awards on Friday 11 November 2016.
With 37 years of unbroken selfless service within the provincial Department of Health, Ms Naledi Lavinia Mocwaledi-Senyane began her career as a registered nurse at what was then George Stegman Hospital in Moruleng. She continued working in different clinics and facilities between Bojanala, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Kenneth Kaunda districts respectively, pioneering improvement mechanisms both at health care facilities and in the hospital environment.
As her career progressed, she joined the Klerksdorp-Tshepong Hospital Complex as an assistant director nursing services: Department of Orthopaedics in 2001 and through hard work, dedication and innovation, she then led the overall nursing services as deputy director nursing services in 2005.
In 2010, she became the first black female in the history of Witrand Hospital to be a CEO, a position she still holds today.
At the helm of Witrand Hospital, she has been successful in transforming and professionalising the hospital while implementing service delivery initiatives.
The hospital is one of the best in the country with awards from independent institutions to back it up.
‘While the Lifetime Achievers Award is the culmination of the hard work that I have invested in the public service,I can honestly say the successes were made possible by the teams I have led in the broader healthcare services.
This award comes at a time when female African leaders are faced with huge challenges.
One focuses on being a determined leader, however, with a specific focus on professionalising the public service and having an impact in the lives of our patients,’ she said proudly.
The Lifetime Achievers Award is also the first one to be awarded to one of the employees within the health fraternity in North West Province.
Mocwaledi-Senyane continues to proactively break barriers and rebuild the public service at Witrand Psychiatric Hospital, in line with the national development plan.
