Were the goods stolen in Ikageng?
According to Sgt Kelebogile Moleko, SAPS provincial spokesperson, the five foreign nationals aged between 20 and 39 were arrested in Ikageng last Thursday. The police recovered two laptops, one flat screen television, four DVD players, two computer speakers, nine music system speakers, two laptop chargers, a cordless mouse and three remote controls.
Moleko explained that the arrests follow a tip-off about suspected stolen goods at a certain house at Skotie Section, Ikageng. According to information, the police went to the house where they found two Malawian males, one of them loading goods that included two bicycles into a white Mazda bakkie. On questioning, the driver explained that the goods belonged to his friend. He allegedly informed the police that he had been hired to transport the goods to Malawi. A further probe led the police to a house in Ext. 7, where they found two Mozambican nationals.
‘The police searched their place and found the suspected stolen goods. The suspects were then arrested. The fifth suspect, a Malawian national was arrested in town after one of the four suspects said he was the owner of one of the bicycles. The Mazda bakkie was impounded,’ she said.
According to Moleko, all five suspects appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court for possession of suspected stolen property. The investigation into the matter continues.
The NW provincial commissioner, Lt-Genl Baile Motswenyane lauded the K9 members for their sterling work and patience in recovering the goods and arresting the suspects.
