A chief financial officer for the Department of Justice at Ottosdal magistrate court was sentenced to five years imprisonment at the Lichtenburg Magistrate court on Wednesday for 47 counts of theft worth approximately R370 000.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Capt. Hlangelani Rikhotso, the 34-year-old Florence Mokati was arrested by the Hawks in Welkom on 26 July 2016 after investigations revealed that she was allegedly issuing cheques to herself and cashing them for her own use.
‘On 11 August 2017, the accused was found guilty on all 47 counts of theft and was released on R1000 bail,’ said Rikhotso.
The North West Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation – Major General Linda Mbana applauded the investigating officers who investigated the case thoroughly and attained a conviction. She further warned that this should serve as a deterrent for others to refrain from fraudulent activities such as these.
