The DA said in a statement they will not attend the logo reveal party that was held on Monday while people living within the borders of the JB Marks  Municipality suffer without proper services, housing and struggle to get jobs.

They say the ANC will blow thousands of Rands on this lavish logo-reveal party.

“We will definitely not attend the exclusive VIP party that will take place in the Banqueting Halls in Potchefstroom. It is ridiculous to spend money on revealing the new logo of the municipality when it could have been spent on much-needed service delivery for the community”, says Neels Coetzer, DA Chief Whip of the JB Marks Municipality.

“We cannot be an accomplice to wastage that literally takes food out of the mouths of our residents. This is just another wasteful and fruitless expenditure and excuse to have a party while thousands of residents in Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp have a bleak festive season ahead of them.

“Residents live in the dire circumstances with raw sewage running through their homes without access to clean water. More than 30% of the population is unemployed and every day more than 12% do not have access to food.

“This human right infringement takes place on our doorstep but the ANC seems to be oblivious to the distress and plight of our people.

Coetzer said it is greatly encouraging that the ANC is currently polling below 50%, which means that it can be unseated at the 2019 election.

We are seeing a new beginning and thereafter there will be no place for corrupt and the dishonest politicians, no place for public servants who run their towns into the ground, who blow millions on wasteful and fruitless expenditure, while their municipality can’t even pay for water.
