According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson, on 23 December police were called to Boikhutso Street in Kanana at about 06:15. ‘Upon their arrival, they found the lifeless body of a 23-year-old Mozambican man, Gabriel Nerwanda inside the shack. He had open wounds on the back of his head and bruises on his neck. The suspect is still unknown,’ said Trom.

In another incident, a 43-year-old man is believed to have murdered a 37-year-old man in Ext. 7 on 22 December.

‘The complainant called the police out to Motshidisi Street at 02:00 in the morning. There, they found an ambulance and paramedics attending to Solomon Mthuke. The victim had sustained multiple stab wounds and there was a pool of blood and a knife next to him.

‘The emergency medical response services (EMRS certified him dead and the police have arrested the suspect.a in connection with the murder,’ said Trom.
