Athletes shine at ASA International Grand Prix series in Potchefstroom.

Akani Simbine was one of the stars on show and his victory in the 200m was one of the highlights.

The ASA Athletics Grand Prix series second leg took place in Potchefstroom at the Kenneth McArthur Stadium last night (17 April) with athletes putting in their best efforts under the bright lights.

Akani Simbine was one of the stars on show and his victory in the 200m was one of the highlights. He took the win in a time of 20.39 seconds ahead of NWU’s Theodor Young in 20.86 seconds. Simbine looks ready for the ASA SA Championships in Germiston and will want to take the SA title again.

One of the performances of the evening came from 15 year old, Danielle Verster, from Gimmies, who took second place in the women’s 1500 metres in a time of 04:38.26.

Another former Gimmie who shined was, Joné Kruger who won the women’s long jump with a 6.32 meter leap ahead of Latvia’s, Mara Griva.
