After a community member had witnessed a young girl being robbed, he warns youth to be careful when walking in the streets.

One evening Dyhlan Rhenoster was driving over the bridge in Albert Luthuli Drive, from Die Bult Engen filling station. As he approached the stop sign, he heard loud screams. “I looked to the left and I could see two guys manhandling a girl. I immediately stopped and parked the car,” he said. He further says that another man also saw what was happening and he also stopped. “The two robbers left her and ran off. I asked her if she’s fine but she only screamed. Maybe she was still scared?” said Dyhlan.

According to Dyhlan, approximately four more people came outside to see what was going on.

After checking on the young lady, Dyhlan and a man who was at the scene ran after the robbers, but by the time they arrived in Dwars Street, the robbers were already gone.

He advices first year students and young girls, especially those staying off-campus, to be careful and shouldn’t walk alone as criminals can be cruel. “It’s very dangerous around here. Particularly nowadays, it’s not safe walking around. These guys wouldn’t mind killing you for a phone,” he said.
