Otsile Modise (38), witnessed his home being engulfed by fierce flames on Tuesday (18 February) morning around 06:00, in Jump Street, Sarafina.

He says that he was in the house when the fire started burning. He was frightened but he quickly looked around the house to ensure that his parents and daughter were safe, as his elder brother, Alli Modise, was at work. The Modises were distraught to see their belongings lost in the fire.

Otsile’s niece, Gosego Modise, says that she and her other family members don’t know where to start in order to help her uncles and grandparents rebuild their home. “If we had jobs, maybe it could have been a different story,” she added. Alli was there after work and hopelessly said, “Everything is just messed up!”

Nonetheless, the Modises are not alone in this situation. The community members of Sarafina gathered and have donated clothes and food to the Modise family. The Modises would like to acknowledge and thank all for their donations.

*If you would like to donate any goods, such as food, clothes, blankets or even corrugated sheets of iron to help them rebuild their home, please contact Otsile at 084 035 5563 or Alli at 063 044 7355.
