Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality (DrKKDM) unveiled the district’s Covid-19 call centre at the district’s disaster management centre in Klerksdorp on Friday, 27 March.
According to Xolani Mndaweni, the Dr KKDM spokesperson, the call centre will report to the district’s Covid-19 rapid response team – the Joint Operation Committee (JOC). The committee consists of high-ranking officials from the national and provincial government and the medical, socio-economic and security cluster teams.
In a statement, the district executive mayor, Alderman Barei Mosiane-Segotso, said the communities within the district’s jurisdiction can contact the call centre by phoning or sending a “please call me” directly to the centre for the assistance or information they may require.
The call centre will operate 24/7 throughout the lockdown. It aims to reduce the congestion in accessing the national and provincial call centres and ensure the immediate response and provision of information to the local communities.
“We have received calls from as far as Rustenburg, which is beyond our juris-diction. Where possible, we assist, refer or transfer the caller,” said Ms Rainy Martins, the MMC for Community Services, in a statement.
Several government departments like Sassa and Home Affairs were present and provided members with information on the Covid-19 mitigation plans.
The communities of J.B. Marks-, City of Matlosana- and Maquassi Hills local municipalities can contact the call centre by phoning, sending a WhatsApp text or by sending a “please call me” to the following numbers:
