Local Economic Development issues permits for informal traders

Local Economic Development offices will be open this week only.

Following the announcement by the Minister Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma that informal traders and Spaza shops may operate during the lockdown, provided that they possess the necessary permit, J.B. Marks municipality has made provisions for the provision of the permits.

According to William Maphosa, Municipal spokesperson, the Local Economic Development offices will be open from Tuesday, 7 April until Thursday, 9 April, between 09:00-11:00, to assist informal food traders and Spaza shop owners with permits.

“Permits will be issued strictly in accordance with the prescribed regulations, for the selling of essentials goods, such as fresh foods, fruits, and vegetables,” said Maphosa.
