Children’s home provides survival packs to assist families

Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Potchefstroom recently distributed survival packs for families across North West.

Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Potchefstroom distributed survival packs for families across North West on Friday, 3 April.

During the testing time of the 21-day lockdown in the fight against Covid-19, the children’s home ensures that the 230 children they care for, and their families, are protected and looked after.

According to Tamlyn Patterson, the content coordinator of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home Potchefstroom, one of the ways the home does this, is by providing food packages (survival packs), for families in the province and Randburg.

“Families will no longer have to worry about essentials like fresh vegetables, grocery, cupboard items like tinned food, maize meal, cleaning agents, bathroom necessities and warm clothes and blankets,” said Patterson.

And, on each package, every child received a personal note from the social- and childcare workers.

This initiative is funded through the home’s flagship fundraising project and will run as long as the funds allow.

“The annual light festival, Liggies@Potch generates much-needed income and the children’s home remains thankful for being able to reach out and take care of their families in unprecedented times like these.”

The drive was also made possible by the efforts of staff members who helped source the contents and package and transport the parcels to their various locations. Patterson says their efforts and dedication made the vision for the project possible.
