Local municipality continues to enforce lockdown regulations

Covid-19 Disaster Management Forum concluded to disinfect areas of mass density and the tightening of the lockdown regulations over the Easter period.

According to William Maphosa, Municipal spokesperson, during the Covid-19 Disaster Management Forum meeting held on Thursday, 9 April, they concluded to disinfect areas of mass density and the tightening of the lockdown regulations over the Easter period.

Since Tuesday, 7 April, the Public Safety Department and Working on Fire, have been sanitizing the city, in several densely populated areas, with disinfectant spray.

“The Disaster Management Volunteer Program aims to disinfect areas that are frequented by crowds of people in order to help halt the spread of the Covid-19,” said Maphosa.

This initiative will be carried out in the following areas:

  • Ikageng
  • Promosa
  • Mohadin
  • Ventersdorp

“We regret the time lag between the implementation of the program and the communication to the public. However, we reassure the public and appeal to their understanding in this regard.”

Maphosa further said that the police have indicated that they will be implementing full forceĀ  to ensure the national lockdown regulations are adhered to.

Taxis operations are still expected to operate in line with the set lockdown regulations. Those found breaking the regulations such as overloading, the taxis will be confiscated. According to Maphosa, numerous taxis have already been impounded during the week.

“There will be no unnecessary traveling. Traffic officers and police will be manning out roadblocks in all of our main roads and those found traveling without permits will be brought to book,” he said.

Finally, graveyard visitations are not permitted. The only people permitted in graveyards are those attending a burial, and they too, need to follow the regulations.

No permits will be issued for graveyard visitations.

Maphosa adds that people who have been going the extra mile for the community are also encouraged to observe the regulations, such as staying indoors, keeping social distances, frequently washing hands.
