Blue Green South Africa, a community project in Potchefstroom, is encouraging people to create vegetable gardens while observing the lockdown regulations.
Mbuyiselo Jerry Mngxitama, the founder of Blue Green South Africa (BGSA), encourages residents to start preparing vegetable gardens if they haven’t yet done so.
“This is an opportunity to start a culture of growing vegetables, particularly winter resistants,” he said.
This project will help provide vegetables for poverty-stricken households in Potchefstroom, specifically during the lockdown, where many people don’t have the resources to buy groceries.
“One can learn the importance of the environment and water. You will also learn patience, consistency and persistence, as it takes time before you reap what you sow.
“This may also teach children responsibility. We are creating a better society through the creation of vegetable gardens,” he said.
BGSA is an NPO that helps provide seeds and utensils to those from underprivileged households. They also teach people the various methods to use when creating, planting and maintaining a vegetable garden.
The organisation appeals to the public for donations of any kind. Please contact Jerry at 061 180 1385.
