Residents need funds to tackle poor service delivery

The J.B. Marks Consumer and Ratepayers Association (CRA) was formed to serve as a vehicle to address poor service delivery and other issues in an already beleaguered municipality.

The J.B. Marks Consumer and Ratepayers Association (CRA) was formed to serve as a vehicle to address poor service delivery and other issues in an already beleaguered municipality.

Adelle Jerling, the spokesperson for J.B. Marks CRA, believes that the community’s voice is much stronger. “We plan to address future problems via litigation and proper input from tax-paying residents,” says Adélle, who motivates residents to be proactive participants and not passive onlookers.

According to Adélle, the association is greatly concerned about the level of corruption and lack of service delivery in the once beautiful municipality of J.B. Marks. “Currently, we are being subjected to bullying from the municipality and new developments are being pushed through without proper public participation.”

The current infrastructure is not being maintained and, based on this, the residents find themselves in the position of having to start litigation against the municipality to force them to accountability.

“We have been advised that this would be the only effective remedy and the association has commenced with such a legal process,” says Adélle.

This process has financial implications, however, and the association needs funding.

Reaching their initial target will enable the association to successfully litigate and also start projects for the residents like cleaning the parks and environment and giving children safe spaces again.

The funds will be used to pay for the association’s legal team and specialist input and also to clear social spaces of refuse. They also want to be able to assist residents with other service delivery issues.

“We want to invite community leaders and other residents’ associations to join us in this fight to bring our city of excellence back to its former glory and make a difference by standing together as a community,” says Adélle.

The association aims to make a significant difference. Contact Adélle Jerling on Adelle.Jerling@gmail.com or 072 920 0788 to join the association.
