Mahikeng Campus Rector died of Covid-19

Prof Marilyn Setlalentoa, the deputy vice-chancellor of the North-West University at the Mahikeng Campus, passed away this morning (20 May) due to Covid-19 complications.

Prof Marilyn Setlalentoa, the deputy vice-chancellor of the North-West University at the Mahikeng Campus, passed away this morning (20 May) due to Covid-19 complications. She was appointed in 2018 for a term of five years.

Prof Dan Kgwadi, Vice-Chancellor of the NWU, expressed his heartfelt condolences when he announced her passing: “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all her colleagues. We have indeed lost a pillar of the NWU family.”

Prof Setlalentoa was known for her close involvement in the community and had extensive knowledge and experience in various areas of teaching, research, and management. Prior to this, she had enjoyed a promising career at the NWU serving as director for the school of Social Sciences, head of the department, and working as a senior lecturer.  

Her career started off as a social worker at the Chamber of Mines’ Centre for Human Development, the Department of Defence, and the Department of Health and Social Welfare. She also served on various boards and councils.

The date of Prof Setlalentoa’s memorial service and funeral arrangements will be announced at a later stage.
