Accident at Dassierand

Two men were injured last night (1 August), one seriously, when a truck and bakkie collided on Allen Hendricks Road in Dassierand, Potchefstroom.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson in the North West, the paramedics, along with the Fire Services, arrived on the scene at 20h20 to find the bakkie and truck on the side of the road.

One man was seen walking around while another man was found trapped inside the bakkie. “Medics assessed the patients and found that the man who was walking around had sustained moderate injuries while the entrapped man had sustained serious injuries”, Meiring said.

The Fire Services had to use specialized equipment to free the man from the vehicle. Once released, the men were treated and provided with pain-relief medication before being transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
