On Saturday, 4 December, men gathered in their numbers at Thabeng Section, Ikageng (Moabi Street Vodacom container) to motivate each other and discuss the challenges they experience as men.

“The Gents’ Reunion consists of males between the ages of 18 and 65 who reside in the Thabeng Section,” said Joy Diphoko, one of the event organisers.
“The reunion aims to discuss social challenges like drugs, crime and GBV and find ways our men can work around these challenges,” he explained.

According to Joy, approximately 80 people attended the event, which turned out to be a great success. “Mr Sello Cele from J.B. Marks, Public Safety and Mr Duma from Banna Ba Kae were important speakers for the day,” Joy said. “The greatest highlight was meeting old peers while simultaneously offering advice to our younger boys.”

The ‘gents’ plan to host another event on 8 January 2022 but the venue is yet to be confirmed. “At this particular event, we will elect a new committee and discuss how to improve the lives of vulnerable boys and men,”Joy explained.

“We need full commitment and support to motivate our boys and men. We also desperately need support for this initiative as we aim to help eradicate drug abuse and minimise crime in the area.”
The ‘gents’ would like to thank the local businesses, Welcome Tuckshop and Club Motswedi, which donated to the cause. They also thank all the attendees who took the time to attend and contributed to the success of the event.
