A 28-year-old man is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 January on a charge of murder.

The body of the 34-year-old Thuleka Zabezolo was found inside the suspects house in Extension 11, Ikageng on Thursday, 6 January.

It is alleged that the victim and the suspect, who is her husband, had an argument at about 02:00 this past Thursday.

The neighbours, who heard the victim screaming, called the local police who rushed to the scene, where they managed to gain access into the house. The victim was found lying in a pool of blood with numerous stab wounds on her chest and severe head injuries. Her three-year-old son (from a previous relationship) was rescued from the house unharmed.

Zabezolo was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS). Consequently the police arrested the suspect.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, has condemned in the strongest possible terms this act of violence. He reiterated that the police will do everything in their power to ensure that the suspect is held accountable for his conduct.
