Government urges all South Africans to get the jab
The government has urged all South Africans who are not yet vaccinated to present themselves to the nearest vaccination site for a Covid-19 jab and those who are fully vaccinated to go for a booster shot.
The government has urged all South Africans who are not yet vaccinated to present themselves to the nearest vaccination site for a Covid-19 jab and those who are fully vaccinated to go for a booster shot.
“Vaccines dramatically reduce the chances of severe illness, hospitalisation and death. Let us protect ourselves. Vaccination is free, easy, and it works,” the statement read.
South Africans are further encouraged to take the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson (J&J) booster shots to improve their protection from infection. The booster shot for the Pfizer vaccine can be taken six months after the administration of the second dose, and the booster shot for J&J can be taken two months after primary vaccination.
Children aged 12–17 can get the second Pfizer dose 42 days after the first one.
“Laboratory testing has shown that booster shots increase antibody levels. High antibody levels are more effective at neutralising the Covid-19 variants,” the statement read.
The Government has assured South Africans that there are enough vaccines in the country for everyone. One only needs to present themselves at a vaccination site near them.
