NWU FC begin season with a 1-1 draw

The Eagles made the perfect start when Onkarabile Moswane tapped in a low cross with his left foot to send the fans into delirium.

NWU FC drew their first match in the Motsepe Foundation Championship 1-1 against Upington City this afternoon (Saturday, August 22) at the Fanie du Toit Sport Grounds in Potchefstroom.

It was a packed atmosphere with fans from across all NWU campuses coming to together to support the boys an historic match in the second division of South African football.

Vuvuzelas and hand sirens were blaring and fans were singing and shouting – all par for the course in a competitive football match in the NFD.

The Eagles made the perfect start when Onkarabile Moswane tapped in a low cross with his left foot to send the fans into delirium.

The NWU had control of the first half and had great chances to double their lead, but they just could not get that second goal.

The NWU kept the lead until the 90th minute when Bafana BaGucci, Upington City are known, scored to take point home back to the Northern Cape. The substitute, L. Chalake scored for the away team.

It was heartbreak for the NWU who were perilously close to starting their campaign with three points and a clean sheet.
