Resident can longer bare with sewage issue

A 48-year-old resident says she can no longer stand the smell of sewage, on the Promosa road next to the stadium. She uses this road daily to get to work and back home. Linda Jacobs says she is tired of saying nothing after several months of dealing with this issue.

Linda, who works at a local shop in Ikageng, says she normally walks to work to avoid unnecessary transport costs but often finds it challenging to do so because she is always confronted by an unbearable smell.

“The smell is on and off, sometimes it is resolved but most times it’s there,” she said. “ It might look like it is doing no harm because it is on the outskirts but some of us who walk on this road suffer,” she added. Linda explains that the sewage doesn’t always smell too bad but when it does, it gives off a deadly smell.

“ It is unclear what the problem may be but clearly the municipality is also struggling to figure that out because this is a recurring issue,” she lamented. Linda says her son has also tried reporting the issue on her behalf but it is yet to be resolved.

“ I’ll end up falling ill due to this,” she said. “ Luckily we are approaching the winter because the smell is horrific when it is extremely hot,” she added. The Herald asked the municipality for comment but received nothing by the time of going to print. CSA Fire
