The camp was a great success and firefighters were issued Yellow Cards as a proof that they are ready, refreshed and prepared to go to the fire line this winter fire season.

Working On Fire (WOF) continues to change lives daily for the past 19 years. Working On Fire was launched in September 2003 as a Department of Forestry, fisheries and the Environment’s Expanded Public Works Programme. The main goal for this initiative was to create jobs, restore dignity in the lives of our participants, save the lives of our society and protect the environment.

The Programme implements integrated fire management services. WOF employed more than 5000 disadvantaged young men and women, who have been fully trained as Veld and Forest firefighters and are stationed in over 200 bases throughout South Africa.

WOF addresses the prevention and control of wildland fires through the implementation of Integrated Fire Management (IFM) practices.
