Sewage spill ignored for almost half a year

It has been five months since sewage erupted in Mosidi Street, Ikageng, and residents say the smell is getting worse.
“The stench becomes extreme when it gets hot. You can’t miss it and we can’t take it any longer because we live directly in front of it,” Sebueng Manzane, a resident opposite the sewage spill, lamented.
Pule Manzane suspects the spill was caused by the removal of pipes that were connected to the former Triomf, but the municipality is yet to confirm. Sebueng says the community has reported the issue, but nothing has been done. “We call the councillor every week, but he doesn’t seem bothered,” she added.
Another resident added that they would appreciate it if the municipality would create a drainage system for the water. “We really can’t continue living this way. Sometimes, the road gets extremely flooded, and our movement is limited,” she explained.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had received none by the time of print.
