Lefa La Rona Foundation in partnership with the Department of Health (Potchefstroom) and Ikageng police station, donated sanitary pads to Ikalafeng Special School learners on Saturday, 6 August.
“The purpose of the day was to donate pads but most importantly to educate the boys and girls on reproduction, women’s health, bullying and GBV,” Lesedi Gaabue, founder of the NPO, explained.
Colonel Leiee, station commander of Ikageng police station, spoke to the children about drugs and bullying, while Charge Sello Segale spoke on reproduction and women’s health.
“We had a sanitary pad drive last year too, but we wanted to make this year’s one more educational. I would say we achieved that,” Gaabue added.
With the help of donations, the NPO was able to donate 200 packs and Sister Khumalo from the Department of Health pledged 300 more from the department. “It’s important for us to give back because we have identified a need in the community that we have taken upon ourselves to meet,” Gaabue explained.
The event was very successful, and what made the day extra special was that the Lefa La Rona Foundation also celebrated its first birthday. “I would like to extend my gratitude to the principal of Ikalafeng Special School, Matshepo Macheone and the staff for the warm welcome and hospitality,” Gaabue said.
“To say we are blessed to give back is truly an understatement. A big thank you to all our stakeholders, donors and my amazing team. Without them, we would never have achieved any of this,” she concluded.
