JB Marks Community Library receive books and computers from NWU
The JB Marks Community Library received ten computers and about 800 books from NWU Library and Information Service (LIS) Potchefstroom on Monday 15 August.

The JB Marks Community Library received ten computers and about 800 books from NWU Library and Information Service (LIS) Potchefstroom on Monday 15 August.
Acting Director of municipal services and LED, Zippora Vavane, mentioned that the library could not buy new books for the last 2-3 years, therefore the donation was most welcome.
Louise Vos, LIS Senior Manager emphasised that the outreach forms part of the social responsibility and community engagement activities of the NWU. “The LIS became aware of a need and decided to act,” Vos said.
Ntobeko Sikhakhane and Cecil Gasa, who manage Information Resources and Library Systems respectively, stressed the importance of information literacy and the use of technology by citizens of the 21st century.
On behalf of the Community Libraries, Louise Markram, Assistant City Librarian, expressed gratitude and mentioned that the donation will assist them in rendering a better service to the community. “This will assist to create a house of knowledge and instil a culture of reading,” Markram said.
Merna Meyer, MCC for Sports, Arts & Culture, gave a vote of thanks saying that all attendees were able to see social responsibility and citizenship in action with the handover. “Taking part is an art,” Meyer concluded.
