Community members, Marileen Theron and Jeanne-mari Jordaan, and Bafenyi Trust, have joined forces to provide a memorable Christmas for less fortunate children.
For the next coming weeks, the team asks the community to assist them with clothes, food or toys that will be passed on to a child or adult in need. “We aim for 2,000 gifts for children and 500 for adults,” Jeanne-mari said.
The project started when a similar initiative could not continue its project four years ago, and Marileen and Jeanne-mari saw an opportunity to continue the great work.
“We saw the potential and wanted to continue making the difference we saw in the community,” Jeanne-mari explained.
According to her, their main goal with their Christmas project each year is to show the love of Jesus to everyone there.
“Everyone should feel special, loved and cared for,” she said. “They should know there is a community that will be there for them and support them.
Jeanne-mari added that although they know they can’t fix everything, they aim to do their part to help where they can and inspire hope in others.
We sometimes forget that one small gift can have a big impact on someone’s life,” she added.
Jeanne-mari says the project has grown in size over the four years due to the ever-growing need. She can only hope the project will remain sustainable and keep on giving hope. The team will be collecting donations until 15 November.
