As we approach the festive season, we as Police officers of Potchefstroom would like to sincerely thank the law abiding citizens for their contribution towards the maintenance of law and order.
This period and into 2023, we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety and security of our community.
Crime is no respecter of persons, it affects us all. To combat crime, it is crucial that the police and the community establish a strong bond. If we are divided on the issue of crime, we will not be able to overcome it. I must emphasize the importance of community involvement in the continued battle against crime.
Thus far, we have had good success in the fight against crime. This success is attributed to various crime fighting strategies that were implemented over the past year and the tremendous support by the public.
It has been possible for us to reduce property-related crimes, but contact crimes continue to be a problem.
We have had several cases of rape reported over a period of time where ladies are targeted through social media and offered jobs. As a result, the perpetrator would prey on unsuspecting women and rape them. This serial rapist was arrested by a task force established for this purpose. There is no doubt that this perpetrator will be prosecuted successfully.
Deaths caused by motor vehicle collisions remain a serious concern. We appeal to our motoring public, to please be cautious.
The level of Suicides are another serious problem in our Policing Precinct. If you are in a difficult situation there is help available. Don’t try to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders alone. Please speak to someone about your problems.
I would like to thank the hardworking and resilient men and women of SAPS Potchefstroom for their continued dedication to duty. Your performance for the year has been noteworthy.
I would also like to thank our law enforcement partner agencies for their continued support. You augment our organization by being eyes where we can’t see and ears where we can’t hear.
Thank you to the numerous Non-Governmental Organizations around the city. We encourage you to continue the good work that you do.
Thank you to the Media for the constructive role that you have played in the dissemination of information to members of the public.
To all those celebrating Christmas, may this season be filled with joy, blessings, and contentment. Ensure that you celebrate in moderation, not forgetting tomorrow.
On behalf of the management and staff of SAPS Potchefstroom I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.
