Numerous South African Police Service (SAPS) employees were recognized on Friday, 11 November 2022 during a glamorous ceremony in Bokone Bophirima.

The North West annual Service Excellence Award event was held for the 10th time at Seasons Wedding and Conference Venue, Dihatshwane village, Mahikeng.

Lt Col Tube was awarded as the overall winner in three categories and WO Bonita Dry of Ikageng Detectives was announced by the Provincial Commissioner as the winner of the special award.

Despite her extreme work ethic, This high spirited nominee says she had never anticipated this award and was completely taken by surprise. “ I was extremely blown away,” she said.

“ I have a great passion for serving the community especially Ikageng, I am glad to have been acknowledged for my hard work and passion and this only motivates me to keep going and working even harder,” she said.

In the reporting period, the nominee’s tireless efforts paid off when she cracked and secured significant success in 12 cases in which crimes were committed between 2017 and 2019 in Ikageng, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp policing precincts.

One of such cases is of the accused known as Thabang Mogapi who was given two life terms and 279 years imprisonment on 28 different counts that included robberies aggravating, murders, kidnappings and rapes. The accused in this case escaped from lawful custody after being assisted by a police officer. The nominee is committed to her duties and always prepared to go beyond the call of duty. She was commended by the Judge of the North West High Court after she spent 12 weeks in court to ensure that proper consultation with witnesses is done and that led to convictions.  The nominee is professional, disciplined and subscribes to Putting People First. Without doubt her sentences contributed to the positive image of the service and winning back the trust of the community.

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Mr Sello Lehri, who also attended the event, congratulated members on their achievements and acknowledged them for their services. He said: “Given the socio-economic challenges we have, the level of crime we are experiencing, policing has become one of the most demanding professions in the country. It is for this that we should have time to gather like this to express our profound thanks for the work you do.”
