More than 200 people attend Witrand Open day

Witrand hospital hosted a very successful open day inside the hospital’s recreation Hall. This year’s theme was “Your Health, Your Quality Conscience; Do the Right Thing”. 

Witrand hospital hosted a  successful open day inside the hospital’s recreation Hall. This year’s theme was Your Health, Your Quality Conscience; Do the Right Thing”. 

 “The main aim is to inform users or potential users on how, where, and when to access Witrand highly specialized services as a referral hospital, and offer mental health and other health screening throughout the day,” said Moipone Mpolokeng, CEO of Witrand hospital.

 “We have observed over time that the public is in dire need of Witrand hospital specialized services such as substance abuse rehabilitation. That fatalities as a result of some stroke and head injuries patients could have been avoided had they come to Witrand hospital”. 

Over 200 people attended the event and among the participants were local schools, Churches, Witrand Hospital Patients Parents Association, Municipality representatives, individuals and communities, NGOs, referral hospitals, and local clinics representatives, etc. 

“Open Day has been adopted as one of the awareness concerted efforts, including other platforms to bring services closer to the community of North West Province as a continuous quality improvement intervention to ensure easy access to Witrand hospital services with about 797 beds capacity and specialized outpatients services”, the CEO added.

Open Day activities included screening for mental health, and other health conditions, and exhibition stalls displaying specialized services offered by Witrand hospital, as well as sharing information, education, and communications materials about mental and rehabilitation health services.

According to Derby Ngaba, Head of Social Services in Witrand Hospital, the hospital received immediate feedback from participants and the public via social media saying they enjoyed the day and took home valuable information to share with neighbors and those who may need Witrand services in the future.

In the case of vulnerable patients, such as people with intellectual disabilities, a direct admission procedure is recommended after all assessments are completed, advised Ngaba.
