What should be a sanitary facility for students to use while on the Bult has become a filthy, unmaintained place that no one dares to enter.
Responding to multiple complaints regarding the toilet facilities at Cachet Park, Jeanette Tshite, the acting municipal communication manager, assures the public that the problem will be resolved by the end of this month.
For years, the Cachet Park toilet facilities have not been used due to the filth. “It is sickening to see what is supposed to be a well-maintained facility being neglected to this degree,” said a resident, Lereko Manakaza.

“ I have lived in Potchefstroom for over 20 years, and I am often at this park. Not once have I attempted to use them, nor have I seen anyone do so,” he said in disgust. Manakaza says the toilet stench is due to the accumulation of particles all over the surface. People contract bacteria and viruses that make them sick,” he said.

According to Tshite, there are many reasons for the delay in fixing these facilities, including the vast scope of work required to repair and get them to a fit state. However, she adds, the municipality has consulted with the City Industrial District (CID) concerning the repairs and upkeep of the toilet facilities at Cachet Park. “The process of procuring services for the restoration is at an advanced stage, and the repairs should be completed before the end of December 2022,” Tshite confirms.
