In celebration of the church's 50th anniversary, the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa brought together members of the community.

In celebration of the church’s 50th anniversary, the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa brought together members of the community and held a weekend celebration in Promosa.

Approximately 450 congregants attended throughout the weekend. Friday started off with the presentations from the youth, Saturday was a fun day were everyone had a chance to participate in karaoke followed by the main service that happened on Sunday, 19 February.

According to Rev Thabo Mabetha the entire weekend was a major success. “ People came in numbers and everyone participated. We are extremely grateful for the major success,” he said.

In place of the Moderator of the General Synod, Rev Prof Modise, Rev Thabo Mabetha did the 50 year unveiling as the present minister of the word in Promosa VGKSA/URCSA. Rev Mabetha took the programme a step further and planted a Spekboom, with the help of the community, on behalf of the Presbytery.

“ We did this as a way of giving back to the community,” Rev Mabetha explained. “ A spekboom is low maintenance and can live long enough for the next coming generations to see,” Rev Mabetha added.

Rev Mabetha further added that it is extremely important for the community to know that they are a church that is aimed at bringing families together. “ It is important that we start by grooming our children from a young age by teaching them things like respect and having a love for the community,” he said.

“We are praying and hoping that more will join us and celebrate God’s grace and mercy for the next years to come,” he concluded.
