Build It Potchefstroom U13 festival celebrates youth sports

Discover the excitement of the Build It Potchefstroom U13 Festival, where Keagile Primary triumphed over Pudulogo Primary in a thrilling final.

The annual Build It Potchefstroom U13 Festival, featuring the top 16 schools in the region, unfolded at Ikageng Stadium on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in local youth sports. The event culminated in a thrilling final where Keagile Primary emerged victorious against Pudulogo Primary, clinching the championship with a score of 1-0.

Tournament Organiser Oupa ‘Magent’s’ Mothibedi expressed his pride in the event’s success, stating, “This year’s tournament was truly historic. We exceeded all expectations, showcasing not only exceptional talent but also the spirit of teamwork among our young athletes.”
The tournament brought together 16 schools under the guidance of the Department of Education and Sports, led by Makanaki Mmolai. Mothibedi acknowledged the critical role played by the various stakeholders, including the new partnership with the Build It Potch store, managed by Herman Steyn.

“This collaboration has elevated our tournament to new heights, and we are grateful for the support,” he noted.
Mayor Gaba was also in attendance, offering his support for the youth tournament. “It’s inspiring to see so many young talents come together in the spirit of competition,” he said.

“Events like these are essential for building character and fostering community spirit among our youth.”
The Ikageng community, along with various sponsors including Aganang FM, JB Marks Municipality, and Spar Group, rallied around the event. Mothibedi expressed gratitude for their unwavering support. “A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible—our local businesses, community members, and, of course, the parents and guardians of our players.”

The day was filled with excitement as teams competed fiercely, culminating in a final that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Wearing blue bibs, Keagile Primary showcased skill and determination, ultimately taking home the championship trophy. Pudulogo Primary, in their green bibs, demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship as runners-up.

“This tournament is not just about winning; it’s about the friendships formed and the experiences gained,” Mothibedi remarked. “I’m proud of all the teams for their hard work and dedication.”
As the tournament concluded, Mothibedi reiterated his commitment to youth sports in Potchefstroom. “We are already looking forward to next year’s event, aiming to make it even bigger and better.”
