ACNW awards honoring athletes and coaches for 2024 excellence
Celebrate the achievements of athletes and coaches at the 2024 ACNW Awards.
The annual ACNW awards ceremony, held on November 13 at the NWU Sports Village, honored the outstanding achievements of athletes and coaches from the 2024 season. The event recognized those who excelled on the international stage, including participants in the Paris 2024 Olympics, South African Championships, and Cross-Country events.

Thabo Molethe, the evening’s host, inspired the audience with a quote from Oscar Hammerstein: “A Bell is not a bell till you ring it. A Song is not a song till you sing it, love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay. Love isn’t love till you give it away.” Molethe’s words served as a reminder of the importance of sharing one’s talents and love for the sport. The evening began with a celebration of ACNW coaches’ achievements, followed by awards for athletes who represented South Africa on the global stage in 2024.
In addition to recognizing those who competed in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, athletes who excelled in the World Cross Country Championships and the African Championships in Cameroon were also honored. One of the highlights of the night was the presentation of the ACNW President’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Terseus Liebenberg, recognizing his decades of dedication to the sport. In a heartfelt moment towards the end of the event, Jean Verster took the stage to deliver a note of thanks. “It’s been a privilege to be part of an evening like this, where we celebrate excellence and passion for the sport. We owe a debt of gratitude to our coaches, athletes, and all those behind the scenes who make everything possible,” Verster said, before adding, “Your commitment, whether on the field or in support, is what makes ACNW such a special organization. To everyone who has contributed to the success of our athletes and the spirit of this community, we thank you.”
As the ceremony drew to a close, Molethe acknowledged the invaluable role of sponsors and supporters, whose dedication and generosity make such achievements possible. “Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish all that we have tonight,” he said, thanking Westvaal Delta, NWU, HPI, Johan Pyper, NWAS, JB Marks Municipality, Japie Fransman, Dr. Emile Kotze, and Ockie de Kock for their outstanding contributions.
