Paws Haven appeals for support to get rescue bakkie on the road

The vehicle would enable the team to reach animals in distress more quickly, transport rescued animals safely, serve rural and underserved areas, and respond more effectively to emergencies.

Every rescue begins with a journey, but for the team at Paws Haven, the lack of a dedicated rescue vehicle is making that journey increasingly difficult.

The animal welfare organisation has launched a fundraising campaign to raise R250 000 for a rescue bakkie fitted with a secure canopy, which will allow the team to respond to emergencies, transport animals safely and extend its reach to vulnerable communities.

At present, Paws Haven relies on private vehicles to carry out rescues, transport animals to veterinary appointments and respond to urgent calls for help.

According to the organisation, a dedicated rescue vehicle would significantly improve its ability to assist animals in distress and ensure that lifesaving interventions can be carried out more efficiently.

“Our dream is to purchase a dedicated rescue bakkie with a secure canopy so that we can continue helping animals safely and efficiently,” the organisation said.

The vehicle would enable the team to reach animals in distress more quickly, transport rescued animals safely, serve rural and underserved areas, and respond more effectively to emergencies.

While the campaign target stands at R250 000, only R1 200 has been raised so far.

Paws Haven is appealing to animal lovers, businesses and community members to contribute towards the campaign. The organisation believes that if each supporter contributes even a small amount, the fundraising goal could be reached much sooner.

“Together, we can keep rescue rolling and continue giving animals a second chance,” the organisation said.

Anyone wishing to make a donation or find out more about the campaign can contact Paws Haven on 063 181 3524.
